Prerequisites for a real estate listing-feed connection

A team may expect an assistant to use a listing feed even though the required access, permitted use and data fields have not been confirmed.

01

The decision to make first

A team may expect an assistant to use a listing feed even though the required access, permitted use and data fields have not been confirmed. Treat feed access as a separate readiness review and use approved manually supplied listing information until the connection and permissions are established.

02

What the handoff should contain

Document data provider, account owner, permitted fields, refresh behavior, public-use limits and the staff process for correcting inaccurate information.

03

Suggested wording to approve

Example wording: “The initial workflow uses the listing facts your team approves. A live feed requires its own access review and testing before we describe it as connected.”

04

Test the difficult case

Test a changed status, removed listing and missing field in an approved feed environment before relying on automated updates. Do not claim universal MLS access or assume that information visible on a website may be copied into every automated product.

05

Worked example

Fictional example: An approved test feed removes a listing and omits one optional field on another. The assistant should stop presenting the removed listing as active and leave the missing fact unknown. If the feed pauses, the team needs a stale-data response; a once-successful import should not be treated as a permanent guarantee of current information.

06

Review it in operation

Review stale-data alerts and ensure the team can disable or correct affected answers when the feed stops reflecting approved current information.
