Floor plans in a real estate inquiry workflow

A floor plan can help a visitor understand layout while still leaving questions about scale, measurements or later property changes unresolved.

01

The decision to make first

A floor plan can help a visitor understand layout while still leaving questions about scale, measurements or later property changes unresolved. Publish only an authorized current plan and keep its stated limitations visible when the assistant refers a caller to it.

02

What the handoff should contain

Record the plan’s listing association, version, source, approved description and the agent who can answer discrepancies or measurement questions.

03

Suggested wording to approve

Example wording: “The available floor plan can help illustrate the layout. Please ask the listing agent to confirm dimensions or details important to your decision.”

04

Test the difficult case

Test a caller comparing the plan with a photograph, one asking for exact dimensions and one referencing an older plan. Do not calculate exact usable area or guarantee that a drawn feature exists unchanged unless the team has verified and approved that statement.

05

Worked example

Fictional example: A visitor compares a floor plan with a newer photograph and notices a doorway in a different place. The assistant should flag the discrepancy for the listing owner rather than explain away the difference. The plan’s version and source help staff investigate; they do not authorize the assistant to certify the current layout.

06

Review it in operation

Review discrepancy reports and remove or replace outdated plans before adding more confident explanatory text around them.
